“Why is it you can never hope to describe the emotion Africa creates? You are lifted. Out of whatever pit, unbound from whatever tie, released from whatever fear. You are lifted and you see it all from above.”– by Francesca Marciano.
Found on the Drakensberg escarpment in Mpumalanga and forming part of the Panorama Route. This spectacular scenic splendor and in my opinion the most beautiful scenic view in the world. Just one glimpse of this wonder and you will know why it is called “God’s Window”. Looking over cliffs, waterfalls and the vast variety of landscapes you will feel as if you have found the edge of the world.
Hole In The Wall
Situated in Coffee Bay on the Wild Coast, you will find this beautiful landmark. The local Xhosa people refer to this as “the place of thunder”, or in the native tongue “izi Khaleni”. Coffee Bay and Hole in the Wall are surrounded by vast stretches of unspoiled coastline.
“Nothing but breathing the air of Africa, and actually walking through it, can communicate the indescribable sensations.”– by William Burchell.
Bourke’s Luck Potholes
A very popular geological tourist attraction, situated in the Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve in Mpumalanga. Formed by erosion, these bazar natural formations stretch for more than 700 meters. You can make use of the man-made walkways and bridges to take in the scenic splendor of these natural formations. The Bourke’s Luck Potholes mark the beginning of the Blyde River Canyon.
Valley of Desolation
I remember spending hours waiting for a sunset at the Valley of Desolation. Just outside the town of Graaf Reinette in the Eastern Cape, lies yet another scenic and wonderous destination of South Africa. A force of beauty and nature, dolerite columns stand out 120 meters from the valley floor. Overlooking the Karoo with its diversity of fauna and flora, attracting varies species of birds.
“Africa – You can see a sunset and believe you have witnessed the Hand of God. You watch the slope lope of a lioness and forget to breathe. You marvel at the tripod of a giraffe bent to water. In Africa, there are iridescent blues on the wings of birds that you do not see anywhere else in nature. In Africa, in the midday heart, you can see blisters in the atmosphere. When you are in Africa, you feel primordial, rocked in the cradle of the world.”– by Jodi Picoult.
Boasting with its spectacular scenic hiking trails, cliffs, forest, rapids, and ravines. Situated 21 km inland from Port Shepstone in Kwazulu-Natal. Having various hiking trails to choose from and great picnic spots along the river banks of the Umzimkhulu River. A photographers paradise and an adrenaline junkies playground. Take on those white water rapids, scenic hike or just a relaxing getaway to the Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve.
Found on the road between Underberg, Kwazulu-Natal and Mokhotlong, Lesotho. The narrow winding gravel road referred to as Sani Pass awaits. With spectacular scenic views for as far as the eye can see, the beauty of yet another scenic destination in Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa. On the Orange River in the Augrabies National Park, you will find these breathtakingly beautiful falls. One of the most favorite tourist attractions in the Northern Cape approximately an hour and a half drive north from Upington. The region is well known for its dry and hot temperatures but is well worth the scenic beauty and experience.
For those who were led to believe that Cape Point was the Southern Most Tip of Africa, I’m sorry to disappoint but it isn’t. But that still doesn’t take away the scenic beauty it boasts with. Situated in the Cape of Good Hope or City of Cape Town, you will find this spectacular viewpoint. With rugged rocks and cliffs as high as 200 meters it is yet another photographer’s dream come true. Looking out over the colder Atlantic ocean, to top it off, what about a climb to the top of a 1800s lighthouse.
“ The air you smell, the sights you see, the food you taste, the language you hear, and the feeling you get..nothing familiar. That is true freedom.”– by Anonymous
The view of Table Mountain or the view from it over the Mother City is both equally beautiful. Iconic to the City of Cape Town lies this giant table shaped mountain with beautiful scenery in every direction. Looking out over the city at night after a hike up table mountain or a trip via the cable car. Or viewing table mountain from below at locations such as Blou Berg Strand.
